To kill switch or not to kill switch? That is the question! by Derek D. Rosario

To kill switch or not to kill switch- that is the question!
Kill switch feature for smartphones are being fiercely opposed by major U.S. wireless carriers! Why?

Would you like a kill switch feature on your phone in case it gets stolen? That means if your beloved phone gets stolen, you can disable your device and render the phone completely useless, oh the sweet revenge, right?  Might as well put a Fisher Price label on it! Ha!

But wait, hold up? Now they might kill the kill switch feature??? Who's "they"? "They" would be the major U.S. wireless carriers who wouldn't be able to profit off of having such a feature on smartphones!

Ok, so now you're probably wondering:

"Well, why would they NOT want this feature if it will protect the person's smartphone from getting stolen, or at least diminishing the chance it could get stolen?"

Apparently some have allegedly said that "the feature could be exploited by hackers" & also that it "can't be undone". But is this true? Hmmm. Others, however, say that this is motivated by sheer profit! How? Well, wouldn't they lose out on money for Insurance plans? Or how about reactivation of resold phones and sales of replacement phones? Of course it probably wouldn't stop the carriers from using it themselves once your contract expires! Besides, if you wanted to sell your phone to ANYONE it should be to www.sell.rebootcharity.org so proceeds can go to charity and not to fund anymore corporate pockets!

Apple phones v.s. Android phones

While Android phones want none of that, Apple, however, is able to add the feature without carrier approval since they control all their devices and hardware to the operating systems! After all, they DID just include a kill switch option called "Activation Lock" to their iPhones and iPads with the release of iOS7. Thank goodness since half of the staff here at Reboot Charity have Apple iPhones!

Sell your older, outdated phones to Reboot Charity, get top dollar!
What do YOU think?

So what's your take on it? Do you think the phone carriers should "kill the kill switch"? Would you feel safer knowing if your smartphone ever got stolen (*shudder) that you could just use the kill switch feature and make sure all of your data is protected? I'm going to have to go on yes to that one, personally.

The iPhone 5 – Don’t Sell it, Trade it or Throw it. Donate it!!!

In the United States, millions of old cell phones are thrown away every year in the United States, with only an estimated 10% being recycled. When a cell phone, such as an iPhone 5, becomes outdated, people instinctively throw it away or try to sell it for minimal cash and proceed with buying a new one. Rather than throwing away your iPhone 5, why not donate it to a better cause?

Donate your iPhone 5 to Reboot Charity!

Don’t sell it back

When a cell phone becomes outdated, it is usually sold for a small amount of cash. In truth, with the affordability of cell phones today, trading in doesn’t really seem like a wise choice. Rather than getting cash for iPhone, why not donate it to a better cause? The few extra bucks you receive from selling your iPhone 5 cannot compete with the benefit people will receive from your donation, plus you will receive a tax-write off come tax season.

Don’t trade it in

Many people choose to trade in their iPhone 5 to receive a cash discount for a new iPhone. However, yet again, your discount will seem rather minimal compared to the benefits people will receive from your donation.

Don’t throw it away

Truth be told, while many try to sell their cell phones, many others simply throw them away. Whether it is due to a faulty part or just an obsolete phone, people throw their cell phones away every day, giving you no value in return. Electronic donations are a great alternative – you still throw away your cell phone but rather than in the bin, you throw it to a better cause.
Rather than simply throwing your iPhone 5 away, receiving minimal cash for it or trading it in for a small discount, we recommend you donate it to charity. Trading, selling and throwing it away pales in comparison to the benefits people will receive from your donation.

Donate it to www.Rebootcharity.org !!!

I love my iPhone 5 Camera but…..

I love the camera on my iPhone 5 but it just can’t equal what I captured with my eyes…

We usually talk about iPhones here, but today I wanted to focus on our real mission. While living on the Kona Side of the Big Island of Hawaii for the past 20 years I have seen some of the best sunsets that this planet has to offer.  But last night was spectacular and I was privileged to see an amazing sunset.
Why?
A beautiful sunset taken with an iPhone 5s

Take a close look at this photo I took on my iPhone and you will notice a blue streak coming from the horizon.

This picture cannot produce the full impact of what I saw last night. Curious as to what caused this effect in the night sky I found that the probable cause of this phenomenon is the blockage of the sun by a thundercloud. Since we have been experiencing thunderstorms over Kona this seems to be a reasonable explanation.
After watching thousands of sunsets throughout my years here in Hawaii I have seen almost every hue imaginable. I’ve seen the magnificent Mauna Kea turn bright pink or purple as the sun drops below the horizon. I’ve also seen the green flash as the sun takes its final breath before it drops into the sea, but never in all of these years have I seen a blue streak, that is, until last night.....

Trading in Your iPhone the Charitable Way

Trade in your older phones at www.sell.rebootcharity.org

Apple iPhones are all the craze these days. From young adults to office-going folks to senior citizens, everybody’s just got to have one. Reminds me of the way laptops were introduced for the very first time; just about everybody I knew wanted to have one.
With companies like Apple, where innovation and creativity are at the pinnacle, it is quite common for phones to start losing their edge after just a year or so. New and improved models keep arriving on the shelf, offering far better features at around the same price.
So, what do you do with your old phone?
Do you give it away to a friend or family member?

iPhone 5s, the fastest smartphone yet ?

According to benchmark testing the new iPhone 5s is the fastest smartphone ever.

The new 64-bit A7 (SoC), which features a dual core processor, is pretty impressive indeed.
Apple’s official claims were that the iPhone 5s delivers twice the CPU and graphics performance of the previous model and independent tests seem to verify that claim.  It was also confirmed that the device is about twice as fast as its predecessor. The new iPhone is also 50% faster than… sorry Samsung fans, the fourth generation Galaxy S smartphone, the Galaxy S4.

The iPhone 5s took first place in the Geekbench performance test according to Which? Magazine. Researchers independently tested the processing speeds of Apple, Samsung, HTC and LG. The new iPhone 5s is fastest in how fast it can open apps, play videos and games multitask and more. Runner up was LG’s G2 and the Galaxy S4 in third.

The new iPhone uses a dual-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz, rather than the quad-core processors inside rival devices, but the test shows more cores do not always mean better performance.

Shocking!!! -What's dirtier? Your tablet, Smartphone, or Toilet???

Ok, I was HOPING the answer was going to be the toilet!

Did YOU?

I mean, how many of us go out to EAT at restaurants with a smartphone or tablet in one hand and a burger in the other??? We even give our KIDS these gadgets at restaurants just to keep them still and quiet!!!

Well, come to find out, Scientists swabbed 30 tablets, 30 smartphones and an office toilet seat for bacteria & what were the horrifying results???

*Drum Roll

The filthiest of the Tablets showed more than 600, yes, 600 of a certain type of bacteria that also causes food poisoning! The nastiest Smartphone had 140! (Gross! Which is still a danger according to the Health Protection Agency). And last, but shockingly least, the office toilet had less than 20!!!

(WHAAAAAAAAAAAT???)

But lets focus more on the smartphones, I mean, think about it, aren't our Smartphones stuck to our sides, like, ALL DAY? Whatever we're touching throughout the day is going onto our smartphones!!!

They say iPhones and Droids are "germ magnets". So every time you place your smartphone to your face, that's if you're one of those that actually ANSWER a phone call without letting it go to voicemail to see if it's important enough to call back and offer a text message as a reply, you are exposing your face to MILLIONS of germs!!!

The minute your BFF texts you, or you make a payment online, or even notice a bill collector calling that you choose to hit the decline button, you're in contact with those germs and bacteria!!!

So, what can you do about those Millions of germs festering and living la vida loca on your smartphone screen??? I'd recommend using a non-corrosive anti-bacterial wipe made for electronics! And then, I know this may sound harsh to some, but, WASH YOUR HANDS throughout the day!!! Sheesh! LOL.

And I would DEFINITELY recommend those 2 steps before going out to eat or sitting at the dinner table at home, assuming you actually eat at a table at home and not in your bed like I do!

Who do I sell my iPhone to when I want to upgrade? Reboot Charity!

There seems to be a huge market these days of companies wanting to buy your iPhones & smartphones! There's no shortage of the many big corporations now coming out of the woodworks, so to speak.

When asking, "Who do I sell my iPhone or Smartphone to?" we hope Reboot Charity comes to mind! Why? What makes Reboot Charity different?

For one, Reboot Charity will offer MORE than the other companies! Go ahead, go on

But what REALLY makes Reboot Charity different is the fact that it is a charity! Companies that buy your phone will resell them, there's no secret there, why else would they buy them? So there's a choice to make! Sell your phone to corporations that will resell them to pocket the profits and get richer? Or sell your iPhone or smartphone to Reboot Charity so that proceeds from resold items go to helping and assisting others?

Wait a minute, you may say, hold on!!

You mean to tell me I'll get MORE money than the other companies AND I'll be doing something good for the community?

Actually, Yes!

And more than that, Reboot Charity is a tech recycling company. Reboot Charity raises awareness of e-Waste, or electronic waste, that gets dumped in landfills.

It really is a win/win situation if you sell your iPhone or smartphone to Reboot Charity! Help us assist others! Help us save the environment! Help us help YOU do something good while getting paid for it!
